A unit of cable giant Comcast Corp., an emerging player in Internet video, has cut a series of deals to handle online video for three other major cable operators. The Seattle-based subsidiary of Comcast, thePlatform, has reached deals to deliver video to Web sites aimed at subscribers to the high-speed Internet services of Time Warner Cable Inc., Cablevision Systems Corp. and Cox Communications Inc.

As Verizon Communications Inc. gears up to offer pay-TV service in New York City, Time Warner Cable Inc. is making a series of moves to compete more aggressively with the phone titan for one of its most prized markets. Verizon received final approval from local authorities last week to launch its FiOS TV service in New York.

Time Warner Cable on Tuesday launched a new service in San Antonio called PowerBoost that lets some customers temporarily boost the speed of their Internet connections when downloading files. Time Warner, the city’s dominant cable provider, is offering the free service automatically to all customers who subscribe to the 10 Mbps or 15 Mbps tier of its Road Runner broadband service.

Dish Network Corp. is hoping the second time's a charm when it launches its satellite Tuesday. The Englewood, Calif., company wants to avoid a repeat of its last launch, when the satellite failed to reach an orbit and was declared a loss. Dish has since dealt with anemic subscriber growth, competitive pressures, customer-service hiccups and the potential loss of AT&T Inc. as a partner.

Palm Inc., which has been struggling to maintain its position in the hot market for "smart" phones, introduced a new Treo model Monday with Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities. The Treo 800w is the first major new model from Palm since last year's introduction of the Centro, a smaller version of its flagship Treo. As with the Centro, Sprint Nextel Corp. is the first carrier to sell the Treo 800w.
